Here’s a little snippet of Senator Jim Bunning (KY-R) on the floor of the U.S. Senate on Friday. Democratic Majority Whip Senator Dick Durbin (IL) is pleading – in vain – for Senator Bunning to allow for the extension of unemployment benefits to the 1.2 million out-of-work people who are about to lose their remaining UI-benefits.

As Democratic senators asked again and again for unanimous consent for a vote on a 30-day extension Thursday night, Bunning refused to go along.

Reportedly, while Bunning was sitting in the back row in the Senate Chambers he was heard to have replied to one of the Democratic senators (Sen. Jeff Merkley (D-Ore.) asking him to drop his objections to the unemployment extension legislation with the words: “Tough shit.”
