MEET PAUL RYAN – THE “REAL” FACE OF THE GOP – HE’LL “STRIP THE BARK OFF OF THE TREE”

For the 5 or 6 people who actually read this blog (although I actually have over 240 “potential” readers) let me just say that like Paul Ryan I too am a graduate of Miami University-Oxford, OH (1973).  Back then those of us of a more progressive bent derisively referred to the institution as – “Mother Miami”.

There are other conservative campuses across the country but “Mother Miami” is way up there as far as academics go and Ryan – to be sure – got a rigorous education.  But like his fellow frat brothers he nurtured his insular-oriented slash+burn conservative tight-fistedness on a beautiful campus that looked like a version of Williamsburg (large green lawns, slant walks, colonial style brick dormitories with white pillar columns, the Beta Bells, etc.).

Although it was a state school (like Ohio State, Bowling Green, Kent State) it was run like an Ivy League institution and it certainly looked like one when I matriculated there for out of approximately 15,000 students there might have been about 15 black students.  Tradition, tradition, tradition was literally pounded into your conscientiousness everywhere you turned on that campus.

Suffice it to say Mr. Ryan is still a very much tight-fisted “Ayn Rand” individualist nurtured on tradition and disciplined Catholicism (I’m also Catholic-raised).

Rep. Ryan is going to do his utmost to strip it all down, every which way he can and don’t even waste your time engaging someone like that in “dialogue”.  Along with the overladen conservatism of Miami University there is something Messianic about individuals who leave that institution (Bill Hemmer over at CNN – is another graduate).

Basically, we’re looking at 1964 all over again – where there was a choice and not just an echo.  But, of course, we saw how that worked out for Goldwater + Co.   After “factoring” in the downsides surrounding the Obama Administration it still looks like the 2012 Presidential election will turn out to be  a real “pasting” of the GOP.  The Right-Wingers are in utter bliss but they have knowingly embraced the abyss.

If any of you doubt this then explain to me why Mitt Romney “cancelled” his planned appearance for today in Orlando, Florida – the all-important I-4 Corridor – with the unlikely excuse that he was suffering from “exhaustion”.  Especially since he has been on a “giddy” high ever since selecting Paul Ryan as his running mate.

I believe it had more to do with being saddled with a vice presidential running mate who is hell-bent on gutting Social Security and Medicare and the Romney Team are hard-pressed to appear in Orlando to explain to the hordes of seniors in that area why they should vote for Team Romney.  The prevailing wisdom is that Team Romney doesn’t have a prayer unless it can win Florida.

Game – Set – Match – To Obama on November 6th.  This is just another case of “planned obsolescence” – self-induced by the GOP.
