Romney supposedly selected Paul Ryan as his vice-presidential running mate based on focus groups that said putting Medicare in play as a Republican “meme” would win the election for Romney + Ryan. The idea is to base their presidential campaign on Paul Ryan’s plan that would basically dismantle Medicare as we know it and instead replace it with “vouchers”.
.
This “flies in the face” of the fact that this same plan was already anathema to a majority of the public just recently where it had something like a 70% disapproval rating. But the focus groups paid for by Team Romney think this is the ticket to winning back the White House.

And of course, pigs can fly.

Just on the face of it the “timing” is all wrong. You are at the beginning of the largest retirement group in history – the Boomer Generation. In the face of the economic collapse of 2007-2008 and the uncertainty it has brought about the very last thing a presidential candidate running this year would seemingly want to do would be to pick the largest share of potential voters (Boomers) and try to snatch away a well-run, well-managed program that directly affects ALL members of that group in the most basic way.
.
But hey, pigs really can fly!
