GOP IS DOA BY 2014 AS EVIDENCED BY PROP. 8 AND DOMA SOON TO GET THE “BOOT” BY THE SUPREMES

The GOP is reduced to uttering that old refrain – “Momma said there’d be days like this”.

It’s fitting that the final nail in the coffin for the GOP is now being driven by the hell-bent-for-leather CONSERVATIVE Supreme Court.  Yesterday (Tuesday), the Supremes heard oral arguments on the constitutionality of California’s Proposition 8 which defines marriage as an institution strictly limited to the union of a man and a woman.  Today (Wednesday), the High Court is hearing oral arguments on DOMA (Defense of Marriage of Act).  DOMA is the Federal version of Prop. 8, basically upholding the traditional notion of marriage as between a man and woman.

While rulings in both cases are months off this blog writer will state here and now that both pieces of legislation are history.  At minimum, the Court will leave this thorny issue for the states to hash out.  Almost 60% of Americans now approve of same-sex marriage.  Optimistically, the Court could outright strike both rulings down.  In either case, both are headed for the scrap heat soon.  Gay rights have progressed exponentially over the last 10-years, far faster than even the most wild-eyed optimist could have envisioned.

With the dismantling of these already-outmoded legislative artifices one of the three legs of the GOP conservative-base stool (God, Guns & Gays) has been shorn off.  That stool is tipping over and with it the grasp or hold that these knuckledraggers will have on future elections or the GOP party apparatus in general.

You will now see more and more congressional wing-nuts head for the exits and into cushy bank lobbyist/consultant positions on Wall Street or into corporate boardrooms.  Collectively, with their fellow-knuckledraggers, they can continue to pour cash into GOP stink-tanks (read as: think-tanks) and just wreak havoc, for havoc’s sake, on any prospects for marked progress in this country.

Goddamn the present-day GOP and their unique Ebola Strain.  They need a level-7 quarantine lockdown.
