Congress took their summer recess on Friday and won’t return until after Labor Day in September.  They left without addressing the current border crisis with Mexico and essentially abrogated any responsibility for at least protecting the safety and welfare of literally thousands of young children and teenagers who have entered the United States from violence-ridden Central America countries.

.

They did, however, manage to pass legislation in the House of Representatives that would mean deportation for a half million illegal immigrant children currently enrolled in U.S. schools who are protected from deportation status by the Dream Act, a program designed to allow for permanent residency after completion of certain requirements.  This is a hollow victory as this bill will never pass in the U.S. Senate with the Democrats being in the majority.

This was a rare opportunity for Congressional Republicans to do something of substance to bolster their flagging fortunes for regaining the White House and the U.S. Senate.  But no, not even at this juncture could they muster anything in the way of positive legislation to move the immigration policy of this nation forward by even a small degree.

.

The Republicans are cutting off their nose to spite their face.  They must come to realize that their political survival will depend directly on attracting at least a portion of the Latino vote in the coming years to remain a viable national party.  The GOP is running out of time to stem this tide of xenophobic nativism within their ranks that threatens to cast the party into utter oblivion.

.

The Tea Party will drown the Republican Party all by themselves.  They constitute a substantial portion of the Congressional makeup of the GOP and it appears that their hold on power is virtually irreversible.  The GOP is showing all of the signs of a Jack Kevorkian assisted-suicide regimen.

THE GOP — TREND FOR NOVEMBER-2016 ===> “BLOW-OUT”

Using the 1964 & 1984 blowouts & projecting them on to the 2016 presidential election – the image below shows what the election night results would look like.

.

.

To bolster this premise further, recent polling by a number of reputable outlets (liberal/conservative) all point to one conclusion.

.

There is simply no upside to the GOP’s chances come this November 2014 or November 2016.

.

To the contrary, they will suffer losses all across the board, both in the governorship races and congressional races.

.

Their share of the Independent vote has fallen so substantially with all of their antics (Government Shut-Downs, Debt Default Show-Downs) that the GOP will be reduced to appealing only to their rabid base and a smattering of mainstream Republican voters.

.

There is simply no compelling reason whatsoever for Independents to cast their lot with a party that is growing ever more increasingly irrelevant as a National Political Party – the GOP.

.

Taken to its logical extent, the forecast for 2016 will be a continuation of the GOP’s slide into oblivion with epic electoral losses in the Presidential Election for that year.

This week two Circuit Courts of Appeal made rulings on the constitutionality of Obamacare (Affordable Care Act).

.

In predictable fashion, the respective decisions were reached purely along party lines.

.

The D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals’ decision (via a 2-1 margin) went against the Obamacare provision providing federal subsidies in states that were administered by the federal insurance exchange saying such subsidy was only available in states run by state insurance exchanges.

.

The significance of this is that only 14 states have even bothered to set up their own respective state-run health insurance exchanges, California being on of them.  The remaining 36 states (something never contemplated under the act) refused to set up their own insurance exchanges and as a result necessitated the federal government to step in and administer an insurance exchange in those states.

.

The ACA (Affordable Care Act) does specify that those in need of federal subsidies to afford health insurance will be subsidized by the federal government through that particular state’s insurance exchange.  It remains silent on the question of whether or not the subsidies were meant to be available to states whose health insurance exchange was administered by the federal government rather than a state run one.

.

After all is said and done the sole purpose of the ACA (Obamacare) was to enable the federal government to be ready to extend generous subsidies to any and all U.S. citizens who needed such assistance to even afford basic health insurance.  It strains credulity to posit the notion that now the manner/style of the delivery of such subsidies (state-run vs. federally-run) is the litmus test for the legitimacy of such subsidies instead of the overall and clear intent of Congress to provide for subsidies – the source of which is federal in substance – to any and all U.S. citizens who met the required economic criteria for eligibility of such.

.

For the GOP to split hairs on the “exact” mechanism that would come into play to provide the subsidies – which are federal in nature under any circumstance – is to go against the clear intent of Congress which was to offer those subsidies with the only criteria being that of economic need, not the nature of the actual mode of delivery (state-run exchange v. federally-run exchange).

.

The D.C. Court of Appeals is interjecting their intent for that of Congress’.  The other Circuit Court of Appeals (VA) ruled (via a 2-1 margin) that the ACA was, in fact, operable in all states, whether run by state-run health insurance exchanges or federally-run ones.

.

It is interesting to note that the D.C. Court is composed of two Republicans and 1 Democrat while the Virginia Circuit Court of Appeals is composed of two Democrats and 1 Republicans.

.

The “method” of delivery is of secondary importance.  What should trump all is the open-ended offer by the federal government to extend financial support to health care providers to facilitate enrollment of eligible (income challenged) health care applicants.

.

The fact that Congress saw fit not to explicitly rule out the viability of delivery of subsidies through any mechanism other than state-run exchanges should tilt the argument in favor of the Obama Administration’s signature legislative enactment.

We won’t have Dick Cheney to kick around much longer!

.

Dick “Duck Dynasty Hunter” Cheney opened up his pie-hole yesterday (June 17, 2014) and spouted off about President Obama’s mishandling of the recent Sunni insurgents’ stunning comeback in Iraq.

.

This is coming from the guy who is the architect of the Enhanced Interrogation program (water boarding) that yielded absolutely nothing for this country except to place a permanent stain on our reputation as a signatory to the Geneva Convention which outlaws torture such as water boarding.

.

Or the fact that he made 6 trips to the CIA headquarters in Langley, Virginia and personally browbeat their intelligence team to cook up something to show Saddam Hussein did in fact possess weapons of mass destruction which unfortunately turned out not to be the case.

.

Or that the U.S. would be greeted as liberators by the Iraqi people as a result of a U.S. invasion of that country which also turned out not to be the case.

.

The only thing that came of the ill-advised, colossally misguided decision by Cheney and his ilk to invade Iraq was to reignite and reconstitute in whole the centuries schism between the Sunnis and Shi’ites – a schism that went back to 624 A.D. upon the passing of the prophet Mohammed.

.

Come clean, Dick, it was all about the fucking OIL. After all, you weren’t given the CEO title at Halliburton for nothing. With your decades in national politics you were close to all of the levers of power to make things happen for the right people – the energy people. Remember, Dick, you had that secret energy meeting at the White House in 2001 – of which the records still remain sealed.

.

So, basically, Iraq, being the 4th largest producer of oil in the world, Saddam Hussein was merely a ploy, a backdoor avenue to acquire another huge reservoir of a valuable commodity, oil, under the guise of eliminating a dictator who “supposedly” possessed massive quantities of weapons of mass destruction and who also harbored and aided and abetted the same terrorists who brought down the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001.

.

So Dick Cheney proceeded to run the world according to Dick Cheney and looked what happened. It below up in your face. And speaking of oil, Dick, what are the current day Iraqi Sunni insurgents on the verge of doing right now – they’re already in possession of 75% of the territory of the largest Iraqi oil refinery in Baji.

Yes, Dick, those who live by the oil, die by the oil.

In an absolutely stunning loss yesterday, the number two House Republican (Republican Majority Leader Eric Cantor VA) lost to a Tea Party challenger, David Brat, an economics professor and political novice who runs a libertarian-funded program at Randolph-Macon College in Virginia.

.

But, what should really inspire raw, naked fear within the GOP establishment is this stark fact:  while Eric Cantor amassed $5.4 million in campaign cash, his Tea Party challenger, Brat, raised a mere $200,000 and yet still managed to best Cantor by 12 percentage points – 56%-44% in Virginia’s 7th Congressional District.

.

It should be fairly obvious, BY NOW, that the GOP  is outright INFESTED with Tea Party adherents who constitute the very fabric of the GOP itself and the GOP finds itself in a stage 4 cancer condition.  The party’s elders dismissal of the Tea Party last week after a few GOP mainstream candidate primary successes was put in perspective by a Democratic lawmaker:

“[A]ll the pundits declaring the establishment’s victory over the tea party was premature ejaculation“

 .

What this actually means, in this blogger’s humble opinion, is that House Leader John Boehner (Rep.) will be leader in name only and has been virtually stripped of his powers to control his own caucus, much less the House as a whole.  He can now just be a total asshole and just win his own re-election in Ohio in November and then hunker down until 2016 only to see the GOP  suffer yet another defeat in their futile quest for the White House.

.

But, that is really hot an option.  Boehner will be pushed aside before that, either by the Tea Party contingent or he will simply retire and take a lucrative job as a Washington lobbyist.  Then again, perhaps he will make some accommodation with Democratic Minority Leader, Nancy Pelosi, to actually enact some meaningful legislation and merely tread water until the tide turns back in his favor.

.

But, the reality is, John Boehner doesn’t have a clue, anymore than you or I do, as to what will actually take place between now and November 2014 or November 2016.  All that can be said for now is that the GOP has long since worn out its welcome among the voting electorate, save the Angry White Guys, and as I have been repeatedly saying for a long time now, the GOP is on its way out the door as a national party with any  national relevance.  It may remain as an “organization” but that is not the same as a relevant, major political force.

The GOP has officially morphed into the FOX Newz Channel.  The latest Conservative uproar is the Sgt. Bowie Bergdahl release from the the afghanistan Taliban.

.

It’s no exaggeration to point out that the GOP spin-meisters have produced a steady flow of manufactured scandal episodes since Obama’s 2008 election to the White House.  I’m going to go way out on a limb and prognosticate that this time they have hit true pay dirt and will ride this “pony” all the way till November-2016.

.

They don’t think releasing five Al Qaeda prisoners for the repatriation of one American soldier is fitting and proper and even warrants commencement of impeachment proceedings against President Obama.  Obama is a tyrant and this time he went too far,  off with his head!

.

The Republican party is so devoid of any usefulness or relevance (except for Angry White Guys) that they’ll continue to froth at the mouth to yet ANOTHER White House election defeat in 2016.  Their blind hatred to everything that deviates from their stuck-in-the-mud backwardness of an era long gone will seal the Republican party’s fate to that of a party permanently relegated to that same bygone era.

If I were the GOP I’d stock up on cyanide pills because just like the Russian Army closing in on Hitler’s bunker in April 1945, history and the winds of change are similarly closing in for the final hammer-down on Angry White Guys (aka GOP)!
